Thought out both sections of the project I struggled a lot to portray my ideas and thoughts. The first section of the project (construct and deconstruct) I found my work and ideas was too ridged and obvious but I slowly began to relax. My project naturally developed onto me looking at layers and Time erosion.
For the second workshop I decided to pick Digital image making (DMI) as I had a very basic knowledge of Photoshop and felt that I would help when editing pictures in the future. I feel that I did pick a lot up when learning to use key parts of the software and that my skills have expanded. However I believe I still need to practise a lot more as my outcomes feel to be lacking something and still look a little basic.
I have tried over the course of the project to be a lot freer with my drawing and use the power of suggestion in stead of doing something so obvious. I think that I have defiantly begun to achieve this as I feel more comfortable and like my pieces a lot more when doing them. When looking back at my work I do think I could have been a lot more experimental and would have do things a lot different if I could start again. I now realise I would have explored fabrics a lot more and played around when creating layered drawing then scan them in instead of just flat drawing which I then layer on Photoshop.
As I did struggle with the previous project I think that has had a knock on effect with this one. I feel that I carried the negative energy of being lost and not really understanding where to go with the first section through to this one. This meant it has taken me a while to grasp what I should have been doing. This second have of the project has also lacked a clear concise colour pallet and was taken too much from a picture from the first section. This meant there was little diversity and feel to the colours
my book could have contained a lot more research. Once I got into the swing of the project I do think the work in my sketch book translated well to my weave. I tried to make sure that there was a direct strong link to keep a quality to the pieces. I feel that my samples developed quit naturally within my project. Like previously stated I had a slow start to my project so I didn’t have to be too selective with which parts I translated into my weave. Naturally I wouldn’t have proceed with anything I didn’t find worthy, luckily I was happy with the colour studies I created.
I have decided to display three weaves and two digital prints. I have put pieces of card on the top of each weave then hung them from the wall using pins and bulldog clips. I did it this way as then you could feel each sample of material as some where quit textural. I then placed the two prints underneath using white tack.
I think if I did have the chance to start my project again I would make sure I was focused and in the correct mind set to express me ideas to there full potential. I also need to write ideas down so there fresh in my mind to make sure I do them.
