I was initially quiet excited with the project talk and decided to choose deconstruct and construct as my starting point. I decided to do this as it may help my relax my work style and be freer. Once I got into the project I initially struggled but did seem to relax towards the end as my ideas developed.
I selected intermediate weave for my workshop as I really enjoyed it the first time around. This time we used a larger loom and a double thread which aloud us to us more experimental especially when creating intricate patterns. Although I feel my weaves have improved I think my style of work still needs a lot more work and development.
I tried to be as free as possible when making decisions and go with the flow a lot more. I found that having a more relaxed approach did help me begin to naturally relax my style a lot more. This also helped when choosing and exploring various materials. Especially within my sketch book I believe you should explore every option possible. This may lead you down an avenue you hadn’t prior considered. On the other hand with the weave I think it’s important to try matching your thread to the closest possible texture / colouring this keeps your weave as authentic a possible. This project has made me realise just how much colour is important when being translated into my work.
As I did struggle at the beginning of my project I think my book could have contained a lot more research. Once I got into the swing of the project I do think the work in my sketch book translated well to my weave. I tried to make sure that there was a direct strong link to keep a quality to the pieces. I feel that my samples developed quit naturally within my project. Like previously stated I had a slow start to my project so I didn’t have to be too selective with which parts I translated into my weave. Naturally I wouldn’t have proceed with anything I didn’t find worthy, luckily I was happy with the colour studies I created.
I think the best way to present my pieces it’s to saw them onto white card. It is really important to be card to be able to cope with the weight of the samples and white so it doesn’t remove anything from the quality of the piece.
I think if I did have the chance to start my project again I would go with a complete different starting point. I think I should have done mind maps for a few different combinations to see which I could have developed furthest.
I have tried to incorporated more artists into this project. I defiantly think this has helped as its give me a bases to expand on with the later half of my project.
