Development of prints

With my second go at printing i tried to experiment more using variouse techniques such as flocking foiling and puff. I also tried using other material for example a wash leather, this gave a very nice surface. Also i tried deconstruction and reconstruction by attaching variouse squares back together.

Sketch book progression

Left- Think the effect created on the bricks above works well. I tried experimenting with glue. However a little more texture would have been better.
Right- On the right i tried to experiment with materials to replicate the effect of rust on a bollard. I thin this worked really well and the "rusted areas" atand out alot.

Left- I tried continuouse line drawing to draw a wall. I think the picture has turned out really well and is one of my favourire. I decided to add coulour to just the mossy areas as the moss was so bright. I belive that this has benifitted the picture and that some of it appeal may have been lost if it was al painted.
Right- I tried picking out the main shapes on a gate excluding the actuall frame. I think that some of the shapes are really interesting and could be developed further.

Left- Its quite a basic pattern/ piece but when i went to Tib St i found it intereting as it was the only place that had diverted from typical metal bars for wimdows.
Right- I like the simplicity of the Tea Room logo and think that it tell you everything you need to no in the first glance. I believe that this would work well as a print or even embroidery.

Deconstruction and reconstruction of 1m drawing

I decided to cut down the lines that where left behind by the folding process. This left me with several small triangles to work with. I originally began stacking them as I like edges, however I thought this may be a bit simple.

I then moved on to folding the triangles in the cornor and adding a stitch to hold the shape.

Began experimenting with piling the shapes thinking about direction and placement. Also thinking about placement and back ground.

I then decided to attach all the sections together and really think about shape and direction. I thought it worked really well in a spiral shape.

Sarah Mok

Thinks she works well with shape and direction in her dresses. Remindes me of my deconstruction and reconstruction project outcome.

Print design

I originally drew my design on a piece of coda trace, however I found the paints hard to use as they didn’t spread well. Instead I decided to re draw my design on to an A3 piece of paper and simply colour in black. Once I had done this I then photocopied the drawing making sure I enhanced the sharpness and the density of the black. The next step was then to photocopy the previous photocopy onto acetate I did this twice so I could layer them up also to increase the density. Finally I repeated the last step again but I reversed the colours to give me a negative image.

Print ideas

Using some of the drawings in my sketch book i tried to create a few ideas of what i thought would develop well into a print.

I decided to use the tree design as i thought it could be interesting to use postitve and negative space.

Feedback and review

So far I think my work is coming on nicely but very steadily. I think that more contextual research also needs to happen to. I believe my book is very easy to read and takes you on a journey down Tib St, however it could be a lot more adventure. I feel I need to begin thinking outside the box a bit more both with materials and the subject. By doing this I think ill find the progression of my work a lot more natural than forced.

When looking through others sketch books its clear mine needs more of an injection of colour and confidence when committing to a picture. I liked how it was clear in others book that they were experimenting and that it wasn’t important to replicate the object. It also been very clear I need more contextual research in order to push my work on and maybe follow a new direction. I need to begin doing this by researching any history on Tib St and begin looking at contemporary artists that my work relates too.
My work is very clearly about Tib St which is present all the way thought however I’m not sure how closely it relates to the sleuths spies and lies brief. I think I need to begin to look more in depth on what could lead to. However I do feel my recent work is slowly getting there as I have begun to look more at marks and hidden potential then actual objects.
When I got feedback from other students about my work I felt it helped give me a bit more confidence over the outcome of my pieces as it got really good constructive comments.

1m x 1m Drawing

Finished product. I tried to encorporate different things into each triangle. I think the overall outcome has worked well combined with the folding.

Each triangle section.

Various patterns shown folded. Only a few of many possible faces.
